Johnny Depp holds court in Darlington

Famed actor films scenes for upcoming movie at Lafayette County Courthouse

Darlington's historic Lafayette County Courthouse transformed itself "Depp" into the past.

Famed actor Johnny Depp was in town as interior courtroom scenes were filmed for the movie "Public Enemies," in which Depp portrays 1930s bank robber John Dillinger. The movie is set for release next year.

At about 10:15 a.m., Depp arrived, chauffeured in a black Cadillac SUV. A hat pulled low over his face, he turned and half-waved, igniting cheers from the more than 200 people assembled in front of the Darlington Municipal Building. He quickly jogged up the courthouse stairs. But fans, hoping for an acknowledgement, however fleeting, got what they came for.
